With the large amounts of forested landscape and the many outdoor activities available in northwest Pennsylvania, camping has always been a very popular activity. Northwest Pennsylvania boasts numerous state and private campgrounds, as well as areas where primitive camping is permitted. Campgrounds often have sites for motorhome hookups and tent camping, and range from open meadows to moderately dense hardwood and pine forest sites. Most state park campgrounds charge a minimal fee and offer the necessary amenities to make for a pleasant stay. Primitive and car camping without fees are available within the Allegheny National Forest. Privately-owned campgrounds often charge more per site, but offer additional activities and conveniences.
Low impact camping has become the norm in most cases around the country and is important to assure that the natural resources we enjoy now can benefit our children in the future. For additional information and guidelines on low impact camping, click here.
